Services for service

Military veterans and their families were able to connect with employers and service organizations at the Vets Moving Forward event at Wright State University’s Student Union on May 18.

This was the fifth year in a row that Wright State hosted the event, which was organized by the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) and the Greater Miami Valley myVeteran Community.

“Vets Moving Forward was designed by veterans, for veterans,” said Cassie Barlow, Ph.D., president of SOCHE and co-chair of the Greater Miami Valley myVeteran Community.

Wright State students and alumni in attendance were pleased with the university’s involvement with and support for veterans.

“It makes me feel incredibly proud that Wright State hosts an event this huge and important,” said Loghan Young, a two-time Wright State alumna and U.S. Army veteran who attended the event.

Some of the services that were available at Vets Moving Forward included:

  • Veterans resource fair
  • Veterans job fair
  • Disabled American Veterans assistance with disability claims
  • Dayton VA Medical Center enrollment
  • Montgomery County veteran ID cards

About 70 veterans service organizations were available to connect and network with veterans, along with 60 companies that were looking to hire veterans.
