More than 1,400 households received food assistance at Wright State University’s Nutter Center on Aug. 7 during a mass distribution organized by The Foodbank.
Volunteers from CareSource, SICSA Pet Adoption and Wellness Center and Wright State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams helped distribute thousands of pounds of fresh produce, proteins, grains and pet food.
“Coming out here, I didn’t know what to expect,” said Solomon Callaghan, a sophomore guard on the men’s basketball team. “Once I got here, it’s been an incredible experience.”
The event was one of several mass food distributions planned by The Foodbank. The Nutter Center’s spacious grounds made it possible to serve hundreds of cars in a drive-through format.
Residents who were unable to attend the distribution event can access The Foodbank’s pantry locator tool at thefoodbankdayton.org/locate-pantry.
Wright State students in need of emergency assistance can schedule an appointment with the Raider Food Pantry or call the pantry at 937-260-0167.
