Wright State University students, faculty, staff and alumni can learn about opportunities to give back to the community during the annual We Serve U Virtual Volunteer Fair Sept. 20 through the end of Fall Semester.
Participants can connect with community organizations seeking volunteers during the fair, which will be held virtually again this year.
Students, staff, faculty and alumni can learn about numerous volunteer opportunities at wright.edu/we-serve-u.
The website features 14 YouTube videos from partner organizations explaining their mission and volunteer needs. Volunteers can also connect with the community organizations through the We Serve U website.
“There are videos that basically tell the same thing as they did at the tables,” said Joanie Hendricks, Orientation coordinator and We Serve U co-chair. “You can take your time, you can really drill down.”
Partner organizations include Adaptive Sports Connection, American Lung Association, Crayons to Classrooms, Epilepsy Foundation Ohio, Feed the Creek, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association, Owen’s Place, Rebuilding Together Dayton, SISCA, United Rehabilitation Services, St. Vincent De Paul, United Way and YWCA.
Many of the partner organizations serve people with disabilities in different ways. Other partners assist those with food insecurities or work with domestic violence victims or animals.
Volunteer opportunities include those that are in-person and virtual.
“A lot of the organizations know ways that you can help while social distancing and wearing a mask or ways that you can help virtually,” Hendricks said. “We’re able to capitalize on that and help the faculty, staff and students that want to volunteer their time and talents.”
Given the challenges that many people and community organizations are facing this year, Hendricks said, it was important for We Serve U to continue to offer the Volunteer fair.
“We have opportunities for everybody,” she said.
We Serve U is a group of Wright State employees who encourage students, staff, faculty and alumni to provide their time and skills to engage in community service opportunities.
