Mary Chase’s delightful 1944 comedy “Harvey,” recipient of the 1945 Pulitzer Prize, opens Wright State University’s 39th season Thursday.
Adapted for the big screen in 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart and Josephine Hull, Chase’s tale of confusion and peculiarity concerns the good-natured Elwood P. Dowd, whose best friend is a 6-foot-tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. As expected, this relationship doesn’t sit well with Elwood’s family, particularly his sister, Veta, who tries to have him committed to a sanitarium. But in a humorous twist, Veta finds herself committed and a madcap search for Elwood and Harvey ensues.
