From the Dayton Daily News:
Two Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine students have received, from the American Psychiatric Foundation, a Helping Hands grant for their Project Parenthood program, which will provide parenting skills to young adult parents at Daybreak.
Jasmin Scott, a third-year medical student, and Ashleigh Welko, a fourth-year medical student, designed their program to promote confidence in parenting abilities for the young parents in the Dayton emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth.
During a series of 12 workshops, Scott and Welko, who are in the medical school’s Physician Leadership Development Program, will provide education, social support and emotional coping skills to help the young adults better handle the challenges of parenting.
Scott and Welko are the first Boonshoft students to receive the award.
