“Mondo” fashion show at Wright State University

Celebrity designer Mondo Guerra will speak about life with HIV before judging the competition.

On Monday, April 18, Wright State University will be buzzing with a fervor rivaled only by fashion week.

The University Activities Board’s second annual Project Runway will challenge participants to create a stylish garment from unusual materials and then send it down the catwalk. A panel of judges, including one of the top two finalists from season eight of the real Project Runway, Mondo Guerra, will offer critique.

The evening will begin with registration for the competition and a brief meet and greet with Guerra.

Following the meet and greet, Guerra, who is HIV positive, will speak to the audience about his battle with the virus. One of Guerra’s great successes on Project Runway was his design for a fabric print based on plus signs, symbolizing his HIV positive status.

When Guerra wraps up his speech, the runway fun will begin. Participants will construct garments from “everything but fabric,” according to organizer Emily Sexton. Prizes will be awarded to the top two designs, but the exact nature of those prizes remains a secret.

Wright State’s Project Runway is scheduled for Monday, April 18, from 7–11 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium.
