Tuesday night’s storm spawned at least two confirmed tornadoes in the Miami Valley. We were live on the air, and broke into programming, even with some shows on popular season finales. Wright State Mass Media lecturer, Dave Baxter, explains why we as a public information resource, licensed by the FCC, do it.
“They’re expected to operate in the public interest. Ironically for every person who complains on a station breaking into their favorite programming, if the station didn’t do that and then a storm hit there would be a lot of people complaining – very possibly to the FCC,” said Baxter.
