From the crashing sound of stacked plastic cups being knocked down by a beanbag, to the swoosh of a ball going through a basketball net, to the roar of students cheering after a soccer goal, you could hear the excitement inside the Eichelberger Community Activity Room at United Rehabilitation Services of Greater Dayton.
A dozen Wright State students in the adaptive physical education/recreation class partnered with United Rehabilitation Services to provide physical activity sessions for adults and children clients.
“My students had a good idea of who they were working with and their abilities and then they were able to design activities that were appropriate for their needs,” said Beth Hersman, an associate professor of kinesiology and health at Wright State.
“I hope that the students takeaway that everybody has special talents,” said Vanessa Moore, United Rehabilitation Services recreation specialist. “No matter what their ability, they see the potential in everybody.”
This is the second year that Wright State has partnered with URS for the class. The four-week long program concluded on June 13.
