LANA director Julia Acosta appointed to ACE Women’s Network executive board

Julia Acosta, Wright State director of the Office Latinx, Asian and Native American Affairs, was appointed to the executive board of the American Council of Education (ACE) Women’s Network.

Acosta got involved with the ACE Women’s Network when Shari Mickey-Boggs, Wright State’s chief human resources officer, asked her if she was interested in serving on the board. Acosta attended an ACE Women’s retreat hosted by Wright State, which inspired her to get more involved.

“I was thrilled to see the passion and direction of the group,” she said.

The ACE Women’s Network is a national system of networks within each state, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., with the goal of advancing and supporting women in higher education. The network’s mission is to facilitate the networking of women interested in pursuing leadership opportunities in higher education.

While Acosta is on the board, she will encourage faculty and staff to get involved as partners across the state to increase the number of women in leadership positions in higher education.

Her involvement with the ACE Women’s Network will not only affect the higher education field, it will also have a direct impact on Wright State.

“ACE shines a light on women interested in pursuing leadership opportunities in higher education and keeps Wright State at the forefront as we continue to grow leadership opportunities for staff and faculty,” she said.

In addition to her work in the Office for Latinx, Asian and Native American Affairs, Acosta teaches in the Organizational Leadership Program in the College of Education and Human Services. She works with several university centers including the Women’s Center, Office of LGBTQA Affairs and the Bolinga Black Cultural Resources Center. She also serves on the Strategic Planning Steering Committee, the Race and Social Justice Committee, Diversity Advisory Committee and the Unclassified Staff Advisory Council.
