Chasity Jones, custodial services worker, received the 2018 President’s Award for Excellence in Service for her dedication to her work and her positive attitude toward everyone around her.
Jones often cleans in and around the Center for Teaching and Learning, where she catches the attention of the staff. Bryan Beverly, senior digital technology analyst and project manager in the Center for Teaching and Learning, said he thoroughly enjoys Jones’ company and greatly appreciates her contribution to Wright State.
“She genuinely cares about the cleanliness and appearance of Wright State,” he said. “Her enthusiastic actions and can-do spirit is a model for others at Wright State to emulate and has not gone unnoticed by staff in the areas she has served.”
Jones tries to connect with everybody, including visitors to the Center for Teaching and Learning. She has a modest and selfless personality, often choosing to act for others before herself. She also has a great work ethic, often going far beyond her necessary cleaning duties to focus on an area that might need extra attention.
“It is folks like Jones who make you truly appreciate some of the basic services performed around us in our everyday work life that we usually take for granted,” Beverly said. “She does not expect nor does she seek out extra reward or recognition when we gave it to her. She deserves our appreciation.”
Jones displays a strong commitment to the Wright State community through her interactions with students, staff and faculty and her generous involvement in campus projects.
Carolyn Stoermer, teaching innovation coordinator for the Center for Teaching and Learning, values Jones’ outgoing personality and hardworking spirit. As the faculty advisor to the English Club, Stoermer notes that Jones often participates in club events by making treats for bake sales, donating to fundraisers and donating a significant number of books for a book drive.
“Her support of these students’ efforts meant a lot to the club members and to me. The books surely meant a great deal to the many children they went to for the holidays,” Stoermer said.
Jones’ attitude towards everyone around her is highly commendable. Her personable and outgoing nature is a positive force.
“She is hardworking, genuine and community-focused, a fine example of the qualities we would like to see in all Raiders,” Stoermer said. “Her hard work and generosity come from a genuine unselfish nature that is impossible to imitate.”
