The COO of a global data warehousing corporation will discuss using analytics to transform business and higher education during a business keynote event at Wright State University.
Teradata Chief Operations Officer Bruce A. Langos will discuss “Analytics Unleashed” on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. in the Student Union Atrium. Langos’ talk is sponsored by the Raj Soin College of Business and organized by the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management.
Analytics is the discovery and communication of meaningful patterns in data and relies on the application of statistics, computer programming and operations research to quantify performance.
Those who attend “Analytics Unleashed” will learn why analytics matters to everyone, said Shu Schiller, associate professor and chair of information systems and supply chain management at Wright State.
“Businesses are using analytics to discover insights and to grow business value across all domains of practice,” she said. “Today, analytics are driving students’ major choices and career choices due to its promising hiring and salary outlook. Colleges are putting more resources into analytics so we can educate our students with the most needed skills.”
For instance, Schiller noted that RSCOB is creating the D.A.V.E. (Data Analytics and Visualization Environment) lab for teaching and research where students will learn by doing analytics for real businesses.
“Today, all of us need to better understand what analytics is and how it is transforming business and education,” Schiller said. “Join us on Oct. 16 to learn how you can benefit from analytics.”
