College student loan debt is continuing to rise, climbing an average 6 percent nationally in the last year, and now exceeds outstanding credit card debt in the U.S.
The Project on Student Debt, a nonprofit research institute, found the average loan balance for bachelor degree recipients in 2009 was $24,000, according the newest data. Ohioans’ average balance was $25,840, the 10th highest nationally.
Wright State University students’ debt load almost matched the state average at $25,357.
