Shu Schiller has agreed to serve as interim dean of the Wright State Graduate School.

Shu Schiller, Ph.D., professor of information systems and associate dean of the Raj Soin College of Business, has agreed to serve as interim dean of the Wright State University Graduate School, effective Nov. 1.

Barry Milligan, Ph.D., who has served as dean and interim dean of the Graduate School since 2017, has made the decision to return to the faculty in the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies in the College of Liberal Arts.

Wright State will launch an external search for the position of dean of the Graduate School in January.

Appointed associate dean of the Raj Soin College of Business in 2019, Schiller has overseen accreditation for the college, including its AACSB reaccreditation in 2021 and ABET reaccreditation in 2018.

She guided the collaborative effort to establish the Data Analytics and Visualization Environment (DAVE) Lab, the hub for analytics in the college. Under her leadership, the Raj Soin College of Business has achieved many academic innovations, including launching new programs and building interdisciplinary collaborations with other colleges and units.

Previously, Schiller served as chair of the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management and academic director of the Master of Information Systems Program. She joined the Raj Soin College of Business faculty in 2006 and was promoted to full professor of information systems in 2018.

Schiller is committed to achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. She strongly advocates for equal opportunities for every student to complete a college degree and passionately works to ensure that women and students from underrepresented groups have access to education and career advancement.

She also served a three-year term as Wright State’s institutional representative to the American Council on Education (ACE) Women’s Network Ohio.

Schiller’s passion for education is rooted in the greater Dayton region. She was a select leader in the 2021 Dayton Emerging Leaders program and served on the Executive Board of Technology First.

She also established the Corporate Advisory Board in the Department of Information Systems and Supply Chain Management and, last fall, led the effort to create the Defense and Government Advisory Council for the Raj Soin College of Business.

Recognized for her achievements in data analytics, Schiller believes that data insights should be articulated and communicated through powerful, compelling stories. At the inaugural TEDxDayton event in 2013, she gave a talk on storytelling with data. From 2013 to 2014, she worked with professionals on big data analytics as a Faculty Fellow at Teradata Corporation.

Schiller received her Ph.D. in business administration, management information systems, from the Fox School of Business at Temple University and her master’s degree in management science and bachelor’s degree in management engineering from the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Milligan joined the College of Liberal Arts faculty in 1994 and was promoted to full professor of English language and literatures in 2004. He previously served as director of graduate studies in the Department of English Language and Literatures from 2009 to 2012, interim chair in 2012, and then associate chair from 2013 to 2017.

He specializes in 19th-century British literature and culture and has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate English courses, including several cross-listed with history.
