Incoming first-year students take advantage of Wright State’s new student orientation sessions

Over the past few weeks, Wright State University’s Dayton Campus has been busy welcoming over 1,200 first-year students who have registered for orientation.

“These are students who are directly from high school or took a few years off,” said Heath Marker, assistant director for new student orientation.

Marker said over 200 transfer students have also registered for orientation this summer.

Students participating in orientation have the opportunity to:

  • Meet with faculty and staff who can assist them during their time at Wright State.
  • Meet current students to learn about their personal experiences and give first-hand knowledge of what it is like to be a student.
  • Explore student support services and academic life.
  • Gain a better understanding of their personal, academic and financial responsibilities while attending Wright State.
  • Begin to foster their Wright State spirit and pride.

Marker said the journey to college for new students is interesting and sometimes quirky because they are unfamiliar with Wright State’s campus and do not know many people. Orientation is designed to connect students with resources and tools to be successful and help them feel at home at Wright State.

New and transfer students starting at Wright State in the fall can still register for orientation. Visit wright.edu/orientation for orientation dates and registration information.
