Susan Brixey, administrative specialist in the College of Science and Mathematics Advising Office, received a 2024 President’s Award for Excellence in Human Relations in recognition of her caring attitude toward everyone she meets.

Brixey’s colleagues praise her kind and respectful nature, sharing that she treats every person who visits the Advising Office courteously.

Laura Marker, undergraduate education and placement coordinator in the Boonshoft School of Medicine’s Department of Population and Public Health Sciences, said Brixey endeavors to treat everyone who comes to her office equally and respectfully, regardless of their circumstances, and encourages student workers and staff to do the same.

“Susan goes above and beyond to ensure that the College of Science and Mathematics advising office is a welcome and inclusive space,” Marker said. “Her efforts in training student staff to be helpful, kind and attentive to the needs of every student, future student and parent who reaches out to the office has significantly contributed to promoting enthusiasm and harmony within our campus community.”

Colleagues say that one of Brixey’s most remarkable qualities is her attitude. A strong advocate for student success, she endeavors to help students by providing them with information and guidance on who to contact or where to go for more assistance.

“She consistently demonstrates attentiveness to the needs and concerns of students, faculty and staff,” Marker said. “Her unwavering commitment to equitable treatment is truly commendable.”

On top of her welcoming demeanor toward students, Brixey works hard to ensure the office operates smoothly and efficiently, reducing potential roadblocks or red tape for students and ensuring that students have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
