Wright State University to celebrate World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10

Wright State University will join the global community in celebrating World Mental Health Day on Thursday, Oct. 10.

The day will highlight the importance of mental health for all while promoting resources and strategies for maintaining well-being in the Wright State community.

Provost Amy Thompson, Ph.D., said academic success is deeply connected to the well-being of students, faculty and staff.

“World Mental Health Day reminds us that mental health is not only essential but a fundamental human right,” she said. “Our commitment is to ensure that every member of our university community has access to the support, resources and environment they need to flourish personally and academically.”

Barbara Marsh, D.S.W., director of Counseling and Wellness Services, explained the significance of World Mental Health Day: “At Wright State University, we believe that mental health is as vital as physical health, and we are committed to creating a supportive, stigma-free environment where everyone can thrive.”

Wright State’s World Mental Health Day will feature informative discussions and fun activities designed to provide tools for self-care and compassion and help students, faculty and staff destress.

The day is part of the Health and Wellness Task Force’s ongoing work to create a culture of well-being and care on Wright State’s Dayton and Lake campuses and promote resources to help community members prioritize their mental health.
