Wright State filmmaker examines Midwest’s economic slump

At Weston Art Gallery, Russell Johnson’s film installation “American Pacemaker” examines the ongoing economic slump in the Midwest in a multi-channel, multi-screen digital film installation.

Johnson, who lives in Wyoming, said the long commute to Wright State, where he teaches filmmaking, inspired the work.

“Over the last 20-or-so-years, I’ve watched the landscape change from a vista of farm land to warehouses and retail outlets,” Johnson said. “It’s given me considerable time to contemplate the link between the changing landscape and our economy.”
