Over 500 households come to Wright State for mass food distribution by The Foodbank

The Foodbank organized a mass food distribution in the Wright State University Nutter Center parking lot on Sept. 9, attracting 525 needy households and distributing 80,000 pounds of food.

Along with providing households with fresh produce, proteins, grains and other products, the drive-thru event offered wellness services, including a COVID-19 vaccine clinic, biometric screenings, glucose and A1C testing and HIV screenings.

“This is done in partnership with, of course, Wright State and the Nutter Center but also with CareSource, Dayton Children’s Hospital and Premier Health Partners,” said Lee Lauren Truesdale, chief development officer for The Foodbank.

The Foodbank distribution begin at 10 a.m. but cars began to line up before 9 a.m.

Wright State police officers directed traffic into four pickup lanes and helped to avoid any large backups on Raider Road.

“We want to make sure the needs of the community are met,” said Kurt Holden, interim director of the Department of Public Safety.

The Foodbank Drive Thru Pantry is open to those in need of food assistance on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11 a.m. at 56 Armor Place in Dayton. For more information, contact The Foodbank’s emergency line at 937-949-4096 or contact United Way 2-1-1 for support outside of distribution hours.
