The Emerging Choreographers Concert 2022 takes place Friday, Feb. 11–Sunday, Feb. 13, in DanceSpace 170 in the Creative Arts Center.
Seniors and juniors in the Wright State University Dance Program will premiere 13 original choreographic works during the Emerging Choreographers Concert 2022.
Live performances will be held Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 12, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. in DanceSpace 170 in the Creative Arts Center. Masks are required.
The Emerging Choreographers Concert is free, but donations to help support dance majors’ education will be accepted.
Each of the 13 pieces presented during the concert represents the unique choreographic voice every dance major begins to develop in Choreography I and II courses, as part of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance curriculum.
For seniors, the Emerging Choreographers Concert serves as the presentation of their thesis project and a culmination of their choreographic studies at Wright State. For juniors, the concert is an opportunity to showcase their first explorations in mature choreography.
This year, the emerging choreographers were once again tasked with choreographing within safety parameters, challenging them to think critically and creatively in their choreographic processes.
The result is a creative and artistic collection of dances challenging literal and metaphorical perspectives, diverse choreographic styles and unique artistry.
The concert will feature senior choreographers: Courtney Draper, Rachael Hayes, Marlyna Orebaugh and Megan Steinberger; and junior choreographers: Hillary Allison, Olivia Bruno, McKenna Delp, Ellie Ferraro, Sean Ferguson, Victoria Henwood, Ava Howe, Celeste Kennington and Brooklynn Skinner.
