We Serve U, a committee of Wright State University employees, is holding a school supply collection drive to give local elementary students the tools needed for academic success.
The items collected during the drive will help fill the shelves at Crayons to Classrooms, an organization that helps distribute free school supplies to area teachers.
“Organizations around this community are doing the drive to really help Crayons to Classrooms kickoff back to school,” said Megan Conley, a retention specialist and We Serve U volunteer.
Conley, who is a former teacher, said many area children do not have access to new materials and are sent to school without the basic supplies they need.
“This cause means a lot to me,” said Conley. “Being able to provide these children with the school supplies they need will really help them academically and socially in the classroom.”
The most requested items include:
- Crayons (24 count)
- Pens
- Filler paper
- Pencils
- Construction paper
- Folders
- Scissors
- Markers
- Notebook
- Backpacks
Donations of school supplies can be placed in marked receptacles located in Dunbar Library, the Student Union near the Student Involvement and Leadership Office, Millett Hall and University Hall until Aug. 26.
