Enthusiasm, creativity and passion: this is what drove a small team of students and recent graduates to design a website that helps college students save money.

Postify, a college classifieds website, enables students to directly buy and sell items from each other. Tanner Perrien, an MBA student at Wright State and the site’s founder, launched the website for local students on August 1.

“When I was an undergraduate, having a classifieds system made finding dorm or apartment furniture easy and convenient,” said Perrien. “Selling textbooks back to fellow students was only a little more work than selling back to the bookstore, but the payout was 10 times better.”

The Postify team understands that college students’ budgets are tight. With the price of tuition and textbooks constantly on the rise, classifieds provide students with a chance to save a couple of bucks. By buying directly from students in the immediate area, saving and making money have never been easier.

Both the buyer and seller benefit from Postify—no matter where they are in their college careers.

“Upperclassmen usually hit a point where they need to get rid of items that helped them make it through,” said Perrien. Underclassmen benefit.

“This creates a perfect opportunity for buying and selling within a group of peers with common interests,” he said.

Since its recent inception, Postify has accumulated nearly 100 unique ads by students.

What separates Postify from other online classifieds is its exclusivity; only those with a .edu email address can create an account.

“That way, instead of meeting up with strangers in sketchy parts of town, Postify users can buy, sell and trade with other students that live in a nearby apartment or dorm,” said John van der Wal, Postify’s lead marketer.

Perrien’s experiences at Wright State have played a tremendous role in helping him craft his money-saving tool. “The various courses and business professors have been a help and inspiration to me and have helped guide my thinking,” he said.

Perrien said that the leadership and entrepreneurial knowledge he is gaining through his Wright State education will help Postify flourish. As a result of its future growth, students should expect more and more opportunities to save money.
