Wright State invites active-duty military artists to exhibit work in inaugural Stein Galleries exhibition

The exhibition reflects Wright State’s commitment to building connections with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base

The Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State University is seeking submissions from active-duty service members at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for “Active Duty Artists,” the gallery’s inaugural exhibition dedicated to showcasing artistic talent from the military community.

On display Aug. 25 through Sept. 17, the exhibition will feature artwork created by enlisted personnel, noncommissioned officers and officers currently serving at Wright-Patterson.

The exhibition reflects Wright State’s ongoing commitment to strengthening connections with the region’s military community. Building on the university’s longstanding relationship with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the exhibition highlights the creativity, talent and experiences of the service members who are an important part of the Dayton community.

Over the years, Glen Cebulash, professor of art, said he has had the good fortune to work with veterans and active-duty service members who are passionate about art.

“‘Active Duty Artists’ is an opportunity to showcase the creativity and talent of the men and women serving at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base,” Cebulash said. “We hope the exhibition strengthens the connection between Wright State and the military community while creating a new tradition that celebrates the artistic contributions of those who serve.”

Service members may submit up to three works for consideration. Submissions are due by July 15. All visual arts and craft media are welcome, including photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, woodworking and leathercraft.

Selected works will be displayed in the Stein Galleries, which serve as an educational and cultural resource for Wright State and the Dayton region by presenting contemporary art in a variety of media.
