Setting up the community

The Wright State University volleyball team helped hundreds of Greene County children get ready for the new school year during a Back-to-School Kick-Off hosted by Family Promise of Greene County at Lexington Park in Xenia on Aug. 6.

Students and families received backpacks, school supplies and free haircuts while connecting with community resources and getting a chance to meet Wright State volleyball student-athletes.

“It’s really nice to connect with the community,” said Lauren Yacobucci, a senior volleyball player majoring in biological sciences.

The Raiders also handed out mini volleyballs and schedules for the upcoming season.

“We are inviting all of these families to come to Wright State and catch a game,” Yacobucci said.

The team was joined by Rowdy Raider, who posed for photos with children and families throughout the event.

Family Promise of Greene County provides temporary shelter, essential resources and comprehensive support, including job training, financial literacy and housing assistance, to help families achieve sustainable independence.
