Dream, innovate and soar

Wright State celebrates research and AI technology with Wright Brothers Day

Wright Brothers Day at Wright State University showcased how modern innovators are building on the legacy of Wilbur and Orville Wright, with more than 17 displays spotlighting artificial intelligence projects designed to battle fires and assist first responders in emergencies.

The 15th annual event, held Oct. 6 in the Student Union Atrium, also celebrated the anniversary of Wilbur Wright’s 39-minute flight on Huffman Prairie on Oct. 5, 1905, near Wright State and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The flight demonstrated that the Wright brothers had advanced their design to the point of a practical airplane.

“I think we are trying to impress on people that whatever you do, do it with perseverance, do it with a vision and things will happen,” said Raj Suri, Ph.D., dean of the Raj Soin College of Business.

Cousins of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Corretta Scott King were in attendance talking with students about AI and how it has helped preserve history at the Gandhi-King Center for Nonviolence in Dayton.

“The world is changing every day,” said Joel L. King, president of the center. “Hoping to get to the reality of our younger generation that history is part of that change.”

Suri said the event shows students and university partners that Wright State means business when it comes to innovation.

“People should all enjoy this event because they need to come in large numbers to see what can be done with even a small idea and build it and go forward,” said Suri.

Exhibitors who participated in Wright Brothers Day included:

  • AI Twins
  • Lion
  • NAAMCE
  • Reynolds and Reynolds
  • Strong Crypto Innovations
  • The CareHub
  • Tactical Triage Technologies
  • Winsupply

Wright Brothers Day was organized by the American Marketing Association, a student organization in the Raj Soin College of Business.
