A new college-led, technology-based initiative to fill the manufacturing worker pipeline is getting closer to launch. The Wright State University Center for Manufacturing Sciences — announced in late 2013 — is shaping up to be a major player in education and outreach for the industry. Through the center, Wright State is looking to expose students in grades 6 and up to a broad range of manufacturing technology and careers.
Here’s new information on how it likely will work: Teachers in this area — and around the country — will order manufacturing-related science and math lessons from the center. Lessons will include virtual tours that take kids as close as possible to a real manufacturing floor without the cost of transportation and safety issues of an actual visit.
