The Wright State women’s basketball game against Bradley on Dec. 2 was the first athletic event at the Wright State University Nutter Center since March.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Raider fans were unable to attend the game in-person, but the Wright State Athletic Department found another way for fans to show their support for the teams.
The Nutter Center Virtual Sellout Campaign enables fans to purchase a cardboard cutout of themselves or others that are placed in a seat behind the home and visiting benches during women’s and men’s basketball games.
“We’re trying to give them an opportunity to be a part of the season,” said Jeff Giles, associate athletics director.
About 140 cutouts were placed before the women’s basketball game against the Braves. They included photos of students, faculty, staff and alumni. There were also photos of Raider coaches, players’ family members and even several pets.
The campaign is sponsored by T-Mobile and will run through Dec. 31. All proceeds will support Wright State student-athletes and assist the Athletic Department to address its forecasted budget deficit as a result of COVID-19.
