Wright State University presents Meredith Willson’s classic 1957 Tony Award-winning musical “The Music Man” beginning Thursday, March 17, in the Festival Playhouse.
Willson’s incredibly tuneful slice of Americana is set in River City, Iowa, circa 1912. The touching tale concerns charming con artist Harold Hill, a traveling salesman exuberantly boosting morale with the promise to create a boy’s band while simultaneously wooing prickly librarian Marian Paroo. As Hill changes Marian’s outlook on life, River City undergoes an engaging evolution of its own from bickering school board members to a gaggle of gossipy busybodies.
