MIDDLETOWN — Along the banks of the Great Miami River lies the history of Middletown’s role in the Underground Railroad just waiting to be uncovered.

Middletonian Abdul Shakur Ahmad — formally known as Ricky Martin — said he would walk the banks of the river near his home on Main Street and ponder Middletown’s piece in the path to freedom for some 40,000 slaves said to have traveled through Ohio.
