For the second time in three weeks, Julius Mays, a junior on the Wright State men’s basketball team, has been named the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office. Youngstown State senior Ashen Ward was similarly honored.
Mays’ buzzer beating 3-pointer to lift the Raiders over Idaho in overtime December 20 has also been nominated as a GEICO Play of the Year.

Mays scored a total of 45 points, including 24 against Butler Friday night, for an average of 22.5 points for the week. He scored 21 in the win over Valparaiso Sunday. The junior guard from Marion, Indiana, also grabbed 13 rebounds for the week and shot 52% (12-23) from the field, 60% (3-5) from three and 95% (18-19) from the line. Mays has scored 21 or more points in the last four games and seven times during the season.
The Raiders (9-9, 4-2 Horizon) play at Milwaukee Thursday night and at Green Bay Saturday afternoon.
