In the digital era, where in the movie business it’s sometimes hard to tell the stars from the stand-ins, Wright State University’s motion picture program has somehow still managed to separate itself.
The Big Lens Film Festival — at 7:30 p.m. today at The Neon Movies in Dayton — marks the 20th time the university has celebrated its students’ cinematic achievements, but the events of the past year make this edition feel even more like a red-carpet moment.
A thumbs-up from actor Tom Hanks and recognition by the state will do that. Hanks did a promotional video last fall praising the program and its alumni and congratulating the school on its designation as a center of excellence in the arts by Ohio.
