The Wright State swimming and diving program culminated their month with the Special Olympics of Greater Dayton with the annual Area 2 Swim Meet at the WSU Natatorium on Friday, October 5. The Raiders hosted the SOGD for the past three weeks to train for the event before hosting the meet.
WSU’s relationship with the Special Olympics of Greater Dayton started during the 1988-89 season. This marks the 25th season that the swimming and diving program has teamed with the Area 2 chapter to train and host the SOGD Area 2 Swim Meet.
The Special Olympics is founded on the belief that individuals with cognitive disabilities formerly known as mental retardation can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy, and benefit from participation in individual and team sports, adapted as necessary, to meet the needs of those with special mental and physical limitations.
