Boonshoft School of Medicine faculty recognized by the American College of Physicians

The Ohio Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) presented awards to two faculty members of the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine at the Ohio Chapter Scientific Meeting on Oct. 25, in Columbus.

Glen D. Solomon, M.D., FACP, chair and professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Program director, was recognized with the Laureate Award. The award honors fellows and masters of the American College of Physicians who have demonstrated their commitment to excellence in medical care, education, research and service to their community, their region and the American College of Physicians.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by my peers for my work as a physician,” Solomon said. “The award really is a recognition of the success of the Wright State University Department of Internal Medicine, its faculty, administrative staff, residents and students. I am blessed to lead an exceptional group of people who exemplify internal medicine at its best.”

The chapter also presented Karen E. Kirkham, M.D., FACP, associate professor and clerkship director in the Department of Internal Medicine, with a Master Teacher Award. The award recognizes fellows and masters of the American College of Physicians who have been active in teaching medical students, residents or peers. The chapter recognized Kirkham for her superior contributions to student and resident education for almost 20 years.

“I was surprised and honored to be recognized by my peers for my work in the education and development of medical students,” Kirkham said. “This award acknowledges that student education has as much value as residency education.”
