Alan P. Marco, M.D., M.M.M., FACPE, has been appointed associate dean for faculty and clinical affairs at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine and president and CEO of Wright State Physicians, one of the largest physician-managed multispecialty groups in the Dayton region, effective Sept. 9.
Marco comes to Wright State from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences, where he served as professor and chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and the program director for the residency-training program in anesthesiology.
A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, he received his medical training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and his training in anesthesiology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He earned a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2000.
After serving on the faculty at Johns Hopkins for eight years, he joined the faculty of what was then the Medical College of Ohio (now University of Toledo) in 1998. He was named chair in 2003, where he continued serving in a variety of hospital and university roles including president of the faculty senate and University of Toledo Medical Center Medical staff secretary/treasurer.

Marco is a noted leader locally, regionally and nationally. Named a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives in 2001, he served as Chair of ACPE’s Council of Fellows in 2011-2012.
A past president of the Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists, Marco now serves as the director for Ohio on the board of directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He is also the president of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia and chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Committee on Patient Safety and Education.
Additionally, he serves or has served on several boards, including as chair of the board of directors of the American Red Cross Western Lake Erie Blood Services, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, and the Toledo Area Medical Foundation.
At University of Toledo Physicians, LLC., he has served on the board of directors, as compliance officer, chair of the Compliance Committee, chair of Delegated Credential Committee, and on the Finance, Revenue Cycle, and Managed Care Contracts Committees.
Board-certified in anesthesiology, Marco is also a Certified Physician Executive, a Diplomate of the American Board of Quality Assurance & Utilization Review Physicians, and a Fellow of the American Institute for Healthcare Quality.
Wright State Physicians, Inc., is comprised of more than 150 physicians affiliated with Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. The group provides primary care or specialty care in a wide range of specialized diagnostic and treatment services throughout the Dayton region.
