With the start of college basketball season less than 100 days away, Wright State men’s coach Billy Donlon took a break from summer workouts earlier last week week to sit down and talk about vacationing, scheduling and parenting, among other topics.
Q: It seems the term “offseason” is really a misnomer anymore as far as coaches are concerned. What time of year is the closest you get to a true vacation?
A: The closest is maybe May, and you can occasionally sneak one last trip in around early August. We finish summer school at Wright State toward the end of July, and then we come back toward the end of August, so there’s a little bit of time to maybe get away.
As a coach, being a part of your players lives is a year-round commitment.
