Actor/director Saul Caplan says the selection of Joe Deer as this year’s Theatre Hall of Fame inductee was pretty much a no-brainer for the selection committee. Deer’s induction will take place in conjunction with the community’s annual DayTony awards gala at Sinclair Community College on Saturday, Aug. 8.
Deer, who has headed Wright State’s Musical Theatre department since its inception in 1997, has authored books on the subject of musical theater and also works with The Human Race Theatre Company and the Muse Machine. He directs at theaters throughout the country and abroad and many of his students have gone on to successful careers on Broadway and beyond.
