Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics will offer an educational session “Common Spine Conditions” on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m., in classroom 1 on the second floor of the Wright State Physicians Health Center, 725 University Blvd. on the campus of Wright State University. The session is free and open to the public.
The speaker is Mark Kayanja, M.D., Ph.D., a fellowship-trained orthopaedic spine surgeon with Wright State Physicians Orthopaedics and an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He specializes in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine surgery and treats several conditions, including spinal deformity, degenerative spinal conditions, spine fractures, spine infections and spine tumors.
He will speak about back pain, disc prolapses and spinal stenosis.
Kayanja completed an orthopaedic spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, two orthopaedic residency programs and a research fellowship program. He was the director of the Spine Biomechanics Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic from 2005 to 2007.
Before coming to the United States in 2001, Kayanja held numerous positions, including clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopaedics at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and medical officer in the Uganda Ministry of Health. He earned his medical degree at Makerere University Medical School and his doctorate at Mbarara University in Uganda. Kayanja is a member of the North American Spine Society, Uganda Health Scientists, the Association of Surgeons of East Africa and the Association of Surgeons of Uganda.
