Dayton-area business leaders say David Hopkins has changed the focus of Wright State University, transforming it into a place that is more business-minded and approachable in the local community.
Hopkins’ June 2017 retirement, which will come after 10 years leading Wright State, comes as the university has seen a major transformation in recent years. Under Hopkins, the school has pushed to change from “commuter school” to an economic driver that is more entrepreneurial and more interactive with businesses.
“Most of my time involved with Wright State dealt with Dr. Hopkins,” said Vishal Soin, a local CEO who served on Wright State’s board from 2006 to 2015, including as its chair. “My job as chair was a lot easier because we had a guy like David at the helm. Very well respected in the campus community, (he) knows how to handle all the different stakeholders.”
