Intellectual Property Day geared toward inventors and business owners

Inventors, entrepreneurs, small business owners and startups can learn about intellectual property from a variety of experienced professionals during a daylong program at Wright State on Sept. 7.

Sponsored by the Wright State University Libraries, Dayton Metro Library and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Intellectual Property Day will take place in the Endeavour Room of the Student Union from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The event features speakers from the Wright State and Dayton libraries, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the Raj Soin College of Business Small Business Development Center and the Wright State Research Institute.

Christal Sheppard, director of the Regional U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Detroit, and her staff will give presentations on the patent and trademark application process, provisional patents and intellectual property issues small businesses and inventors commonly face.

Attendees will also learn about resources available to take an idea to market, start a business and understand their marketplace through research. Other presentations will help attendees make better decisions about their intellectual property and leverage in the marketplace.

Studies show that intellectual property makes up 80 percent of the value of the average small business.

Registration for Intellectual Property Day is free and open to the public until Sept. 3. Space is limited.
