The 2018 Horizon League Champion Wright State men’s basketball team will play No. 3 Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Dallas on Thursday, March 15. Game time is 12:40 p.m. Eastern. The Raiders are ranked 14th in the south region.
The Raiders, making their third Division I NCAA tournament appearance, were a No. 2 seed in the Horizon League tournament and defeated Green Bay, Milwaukee and Cleveland State in the championship game. Senior Grant Benzinger, who has led the Raiders in scoring all season, was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament as freshman Loudon Love was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
For the regular season, Benzinger was named First-Team, Love to the Second Team and Freshman of the Year and junior Mark Hughes was placed on the All-Defensive Team. Head coach Scott Nagy was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year.
Wright State, which set a school record with 25 wins, also appeared in the 1993 tournament (16th seed) when they met Indiana and 2007 tournament (14th seed) against Pittsburgh. This is the first meeting in school history with the Volunteers.
