Wright State dance students to premiere new works at Emerging Choreographers Concert

Pieces performed in the Emerging Choreographers Concert are a culmination of the work of students in Choreography I and Choreography II.

Junior and senior dance majors in the Wright State University Dance Ensemble will premiere their new works during the Emerging Choreographers Concert 2020.

The concert takes place Friday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. in DanceSpace 170 in the Creative Arts Center.

While admission is free, donations will be accepted at the door to support future student productions. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis and is expected to fill up quickly so audience members are encouraged to arrive early.

The concert will feature a diverse concert of new choreographic work by students in the Wright State Dance Ensemble: seniors Courtney Anderson, Kennedi Jones, Hannah Neff, Jacob Shade and Mikaela Sobolik; and juniors: Hannah Bond, Emma Courtney, Breah Duschl, Meredith Erickson, Nicole Fredette, Kailey Hackathorne, Jillian Krekel, KC Lyphout, Willa Marks, Natalia Retzloff and Jeannie Sincic.

The development by students of a unique artistic voice and sense of individuality is encouraged by the Wright State dance faculty. Pieces performed in the Emerging Choreographers Concert are a culmination of the work of students in Choreography I and Choreography II. Dance students are pushed to develop and master the craft of choreography by learning the various tools and methods that set them up for success in the rehearsal space and eventually the stage.
