Men’s basketball team clinches top seed
After clinching its first outright Horizon League regular season championship in program history, the Wright State men’s basketball team secured the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Championship.
The Raiders received a double bye and will play in the first semifinal contest on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. against the lowest remaining seed at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The game will air on ESPNU.
The Raiders finished the regular season 25-6 overall and 15-3 in the Horizon League.
The top two men’s and women’s teams in the regular season standings each earned their spots in the semifinals. The championship game will be played the following night, Tuesday, March 10.
This season is the first at the new venue for the championships, as the event moves to Indianapolis and the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Events Center. The venue, which seats 6,800, is two hours from the Wright State campus, while eight of 10 schools are within five hours of Indianapolis.

Both Monday’s semifinals and Tuesday’s championship will have two sessions – one session for women in the afternoon, and one session for men in the evening. There are a total of four sessions. Men’s games will be ticketed as both reserved and general admission while women’s games will be ticketed as general admission only. Reserved seating is available for single sessions only. General admission seating is available for both single-sessions and all-sessions.
As the No. 1 seed, Wright State is guaranteed to be the home team on March 9 in the semifinals and will also be the home team if the Raiders advance to the championship on March 10.
To sit with other Raider fans, Wright State suggests fans purchase reserved seats in section 100 or 101 or sit behind those areas in general admission seating.
Women’s team secures No. 3 seed, hosts tourney opener at Nutter Center
The Wright State women’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 13-5 Horizon League record (18-11 overall), tying for second place in the final standings with Green Bay.
Based on tiebreakers, the Raiders are the third seed in the 2020 Horizon League Championship.
The Raiders will host a first-round matchup on Tuesday, March 3, against 10th seeded UIC. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Wright State Nutter Center and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
With a win on March 3, the Raiders would host the lowest remaining seed on Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center. The winner will advance to the semifinals and will play top seeds IUPUI and Green Bay in Indianapolis on March 9.
Wright State swept the season series against the Flames this season to run the winning streak to 16 consecutive wins over UIC dating back to the 2013-14 season. The Raiders have swept the season series in each of the last seven seasons and have also defeated the Flames in Horizon League tournament action twice in that span.
UIC enters the Horizon League Championship with a 3-26 record and a 2-16 mark in Horizon League play, having lost its last eight games to close the regular season.
