Susan Schaurer, a veteran in higher education recruitment and admissions, has been named vice president for enrollment management and chief recruitment officer of Wright State University.
“As a highly experienced and accomplished admissions officer and university leader, Ms. Schaurer is uniquely qualified to lead Wright State’s efforts to grow undergraduate recruitment and help our students succeed,” said Wright State President Sue Edwards, Ph.D. “As vice president for enrollment management and chief recruitment officer, Ms. Schaurer will play a pivotal role in the execution of our strategies of recruitment, retention and relationships.”
During her 13-year career at Miami University, Schaurer held numerous leadership positions in the Office of Admission and the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success, including serving as assistant vice president for enrollment management and director of admission and associate vice president for strategic enrollment management and marketing.
Schaurer led Miami University’s overall undergraduate admission efforts and oversaw strategic communication and marketing efforts that advanced and supported enrollment and student success goals.
Her responsibilities included overseeing a complex communication and marketing plan consisting of recruitment, brand positioning, and student success endeavors and initiatives; managing the budget for admission, international and transfer admission, enrollment marketing and communication, and enrollment operations; and creating and implementing a multifaceted merit and need-based financial aid plan.
“Wright State has played a pivotal role in the Dayton region for more than 50 years, and I am honored and excited to join the university as it fortifies its mission to transform the lives of the students and communities it serves,” Schaurer said. “I look forward to working with President Edwards and the entire Raider community to implement a comprehensive and data-driven enrollment strategy that will both support student recruitment and success and further advance Wright State’s vision and goals.”
Schaurer will report to Edwards as a member of the university’s senior leadership team.
As vice president for enrollment management and chief recruitment officer, she will be responsible for growing enrollment that aligns and reflects the university’s mission and strategic plan. She is tasked with executing a strategic recruitment process that capitalizes on building strong relationships throughout Raider Country.
She will oversee undergraduate recruitment, admissions, transfer student recruitment, college credit plus, financial aid, RaiderConnect, the University Center for International Education and the Office of Marketing. She will also interact with all aspects of university operations and student life and create effective relationships with faculty, staff and alumni to assist in the recruitment of students.
“As someone who has worked and lived in southwest Ohio, Ms. Schaurer understands the needs of our students and their families and is ready to support the important role our university plays in our community and state,” Edwards said.
Schaurer also has experience outside of higher education, serving as director of K-12 client relations for the ACT and as an English teacher in Eaton Community Schools for four years.
She received a bachelor’s degree in English education from Miami University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.
