Bruce Mackh appointed vice provost for assessment and chief accreditation officer at Wright State

Bruce Mackh has been appointed vice provost for assessment and chief accreditation officer at Wright State.

Bruce Mackh, Ph.D., formerly the associate vice president of teaching and learning at Chadron State College in Nebraska, has joined Wright State University as vice provost for assessment and chief accreditation officer.

“Dr. Mackh shares our university’s emphasis on transforming the lives of students and communities and maintaining a learning-centered, innovative, inclusive and respectful environment in which all can thrive,” said Provost Amy Thompson, Ph.D.

He is dedicated to improving the quality and value of higher education, measuring its achievements through graduates’ success; universities’ advancement of research, discovery, and creative activity; and institutions’ contributions to the cultural, economic, and social well-being of communities.

Mackh brings expertise in assessment, curricular design and continuous improvement. A researcher of teaching and learning, he also has a strong interest in curriculum development, pedagogy and faculty development.

He is an advocate for supporting student success through student-centered approaches to teaching and learning and through increasing access, diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom.

Mackh has a variety of valuable experiences as an educator and administrator at large and small public and private institutions.

At Chadron State, he oversaw the Teaching, Learning, and Professional Education Center, the college library, career and academic planning services, disability services and the tutoring center, as well as professional and leadership development opportunities for faculty, staff, and administrators.

Previously, Mackh served as the head of the Department of Art and Design and associate professor of art at Valdosta State University; dean of faculty, chair of liberal arts and associate professor of liberal arts at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design; and program director of arts and cultural management and museum studies and assistant professor of visual art at Michigan State University. At the University of Michigan, he was the director of the Mellon Research Project, an international study of arts integration at research universities.

Mackh earned his Ph.D. in critical studies from Texas Tech University, an M.F.A. in photography from Tulane University and a B.F.A. in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
