Cathy Lee, student services coordinator in the School of Fine and Performing Arts, received the 2022 President’s Award for Excellence in Human Relations (Classified) for her willingness to step up and take on more work in additional departments across the College of Liberal Arts. Her coworkers commend her helpful attitude and her open mind when facing new challenges.

Lee’s coworkers cite her as an exemplary illustration of human relations. When a staff member retired from the former Department of Art and Art History, Lee adjusted her part-time work with the Learning English for Academic and Professional Purposes (LEAP) Intensive English program to also contribute to the art program.

When another administrative position opened in the former School of Music, Lee stepped up once again to assist with those responsibilities. She introduced herself to new faculty and students and immediately took on supportive roles as a connection maker and resource provider.

Lee’s colleagues commended her open attitude toward new and different practices within the College of Liberal Arts. She never says no and always keeps an open mind to her colleagues across her roles. She cares deeply for students and is always looking for ways to assist and support them.

Due to Lee’s experience with the LEAP program, she offers a unique perspective and ability to foster diverse relationships across the programs she serves. She integrates Wright State’s programs with a large, diverse student body and makes students feel included and welcome.

Her diverse experiences enable her to be an open-minded and supportive force behind new initiatives and changes within the College of Liberal Arts. She provides feedback and navigates concerns and frustrations with grace and finesse that allow progress.

Lee also served as a voice for the staff during the college’s reorganization discussions and assisted in maintaining decorum during meetings.
