Wright State University Libraries celebrates Friends of the Libraries Week Oct. 15–21

Wright State University Libraries will celebrate Friends of the Libraries Week, Oct. 15–21 in recognition of the support it offers Wright State students, faculty and staff each year.

Wright State University Friends of the Libraries is a group of Wright State faculty, staff, retirees, alumni and community members committed to supporting the needs of the Wright State University Libraries and its patrons.

Since 2005, the American Library Association has promoted National Friends of the Libraries Week during the third week of October as a time to recognize the dedication of Friends of Libraries groups across the nation.

Friends of the Libraries supports the mission of the Wright State Libraries to uphold the mission of Wright State by providing exceptional research services and resources to facilitate faculty and student success and by fostering innovation and lifelong learning in our diverse community.

The group supports critical library staff grants for research projects, new equipment and technology, staff development, and other special projects. Twice each year the group awards scholarships to library student assistants in recognition of their outstanding job performance and contributions tothe libraries. Each spring, Friends of the Libraries honors “Top Scholars” selected by the Dean’s Office in each college and at the Lake Campus.

In collaboration with the Wright State Retirees Association and the Wright State  Alumni Association, the group hosts online book club discussions on select Thursdays.

Friends of the Libraries will host its next author and in-person luncheon on April 24 featuring WYSO’s “Book Nook” host Vick Mickunas.
