Military veterans and their families were able to connect with employers and service organizations at the Vets Moving Forward event at Wright State University’s Student Union on May 22.
This was the seventh year in a row that Wright State hosted the event, which was organized by the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) and the Greater Miami Valley myVeteran Community.
“It’s really amazing how many veterans don’t know how many opportunities are out there for them,” Deborah Ashenhurst, director of the Ohio Department of Veteran Services. “An event like this shows them all of the resources that are in the community.”
Seth Gordon, Ph.D., director of the Veteran and Military Center at Wright State, said the support that veterans receive from the university is authentic and real.
“This is a privilege to work with these veterans, and it’s easy to show up to work every day,” said Gordon.
Some of the services available at Vets Moving Forward included:
- Veterans resource fair
- Veterans job fair
- Assistance with disability claims
- Dayton VA Medical Center enrollment
- Montgomery County veteran ID cards
Over 50 service organizations and 52 companies participated in the event.
