Cheering and screams of pure joy filled the rear of the Student Union near Alumni Grove on Sept. 15 as dozens of female students pledged to join five different sororities.
All 60 students received an envelope at the same time revealing their sorority. New members joined their awaiting sisters by revealing their names and sororities and running through the Student Union exit doors while wearing their sorority T-shirts.
Students completed three rounds of discussions to select their top two sororities. The rounds included a philanthropy round, a sisterhood round and a preference round.
“Some people join recruitment because they want to make new friends,” said Katy Burton, a sophomore English major and Delta Zeta member. “I wanted to be surrounded by powerful women making a difference and that’s what I got.”
“It’s so great to know that these women want to get involved with sorority life, Greek life and on-campus in general,” said Lexi Ricker, a senior psychology major and recruitment leader for Alpha Omicron Pi.
This was the 51st year Wright State has hosted bid day and the largest sorority recruitment class since 2019.
