Wright State Theatre to present the musical ‘The Apple Tree’ in Herbst Theatre

Wright State University Theatre will present the witty and tuneful musical “The Apple Tree” in the intimate Herbst Studio Theatre in the Creative Arts Center on Nov. 15–24.

Performances are Nov. 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 17, 23 and 24 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for faculty and staff and people 60 and older and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the Creative Arts Center box office between noon and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or at wrightliberalarts.universitytickets.com.

“The Apple Tree” is comprised of three musical miniatures based on Mark Twain’s “The Diary of Adam and Eve,” Frank Stockton’s “The Lady, or the Tiger?” and Jules Feiffer’s “Passionella.”

“The Apple Tree” debuted on Broadway in 1966 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Wright State’s production is guest-directed and choreographed by Leslie Goddard-Baum and with music direction by Wade Russo, instructor and musical director in the theatre program.

“The Apple Tree” features scenic design by resident prop master John Lavarnway; costume design by theatre design and technology major Wrynn Boucher, lighting design by theatre design and technology major Jennifer Dillard and sound design by resident sound designer James Dunlap.

On the stage, “The Apple Tree” features Danny Dobbins as Adam and Guard; Emma Kopec as Eve and Handmaiden; Toby Hattemer as Snake; Maggie Silver as Barbara; Blaise Duncan-Bevans as Sanjar; Eli Peel as Balladeer, Boss and Flip’s Double; Palyce Berrian as Nadjira; Jordan Allen as King Arick and Producer; Lilly Buck as Ella/Passionella; Eoin Collins as Flip/Prince Charming; Sid Grohowski as Narrator and Prisoner; Noel Nieczporowicz as Tiger; Sarah Rowell as Handmaiden and Director; Nia Buchannon as Guard; Dominic Cullen as Guard and Fairy Godmother; Skye Hodgkin as Handmaiden and Ella’s Double; Baylee Mallin as Handmaiden and Starlet; and Hannah Wilkerson as Guard, Reporter and Mr. Fallible.

2024–25 theatre season continues

Wright State Theatre’s current season resumes in 2025 with Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” from Feb. 14–23 in the Festival Playhouse
