When a major campus activity is running smoothly, there’s a good chance Kathy Warden is behind the scenes making it happen.
As manager of university space and special projects, Warden is known for stepping in wherever she’s needed — often putting aside her own responsibilities to help others succeed.
That dedication earned her the 2025 President’s Award for Excellence in Service.
Daniel Palmer, director of government affairs, describes Warden as a model employee who always puts others before herself.
“Kathy Warden is an excellent team player who always steps up and goes above and beyond what is expected to ensure everything she is involved with goes smoothly and is the best experience possible for our students, staff, faculty and guests,” Palmer said.
Warden’s responsibilities span a range of projects and events. She oversees the university Sign Shop, providing everything from directional signage to custom printing for events.
Warden was an integral member of the planning team for the 2025 Dayton Hoopla STEM Challenge in the Student Union, coordinating signage around campus and facility needs, putting in extra hours to ensure Wright State made the best possible impression.
She has also played a key role in events like the Aerospace and Defense Forum, Dayton Business Journal events and a special performance by the Sarajevo Orchestra in the Creative Arts Center.
Warden has also managed complex campus office moves, including a massive summer transition that relocated multiple units and colleges before the start of the academic year. She completed the work on time, accommodating the needs of everyone involved.
“This was a tremendous logistical challenge that Kathy absolutely did an amazing job with,” Palmer said.
Warden also manages the Office of Excess and Surplus Property Management, making her the go-to resource when departments need furniture. She tracks surplus items that can be repurposed at no cost and works with vendors when specific pieces are needed, extending her project management skills to support the university community in practical ways.
Whether managing a high-profile event or tackling a complicated campus move, Warden brings patience, skill and a commitment to excellent customer service.
