With a passion for empowering students and a gift for building authentic connections, Rachelle Dancy has become a driving force behind transfer student success at Wright State University.
Her dedication to personalized, student-centered support earned her the 2025 Student Success Champion Award.
Since joining Wright State in 2022 as assistant director for transfer admission and success in the Transfer Center, Dancy has been a strong advocate for all students, with a special commitment for supporting transfer students.
“Everything Rachelle does is in service to students to ensure they are seen, included and valued as individuals,” said Hideo Tsuchida, director of articulation, transfer and institutional partnerships. “She excels in building genuine relationships by being approachable, attentive and empathetic, which helps transfer students feel seen and valued during their time of transition.”
From prompt daily correspondence to unofficial credit evaluations to helping students navigate academic systems, policies and resources, Dancy helps students create agency so they can begin their new academic journey with confidence.
Her proactive approach includes regular outreach, such as sending best wishes the week before new transfer students begin classes and checking in after their first month to ensure they are adjusting well.
Dancy’s impact extends beyond individual student interactions. She collaborates with colleagues across the university and with external partners to champion transfer student success at every opportunity. She also assists with first-time student registration during orientation, ensuring that incoming students from all backgrounds feel welcome and supported.
As a Wright State alum, Dancy brings a personal connection to her work. She wants today’s students to experience the same sense of belonging and encouragement she received as a student.
Her dedication to recruitment, retention and relationship-building reflects best the Wright State’s mission and values.
“Wright State is fortunate to have Rachelle as students’ first impression and experience with the university,” Tsuchida said. “She is an outstanding staff member and team member.”
